Our Philosphy
**This page was first published on the original moneytips review site in July 2004. Nothing has changed since then so I reproduce the page in its entirety below
Our first and foremost priority with this website is to help others, if we can, to understand that they are not alone, and to understand how some money tips could help or hinder their struggle with money
We know perfectly well what it is like you see.
We have experienced first hand what it is like to worry about large amounts of debt. In fact, Just over 50% of my take home pay still go to pay off our mortgage payments. Which now includes car loan etc.
On Offering Honest, Valuable Information For Free
The Money Tips Review was created specifically to assist people that are facing the sort of challenges we have gone through.
The reason for that is that we have used our experiences with alot of these tips to build the site. We have no personal loans for instance, which is why we have yet to publish any tip reviews on that subject.
None of the content on this site is intended as financial advice. We are merely reviewing money tips with the hope that you will find our views and experiences useful.
On Debt Victims
We class ourselves as recovering debt victims. Our definition of a debt victim is someone that is spending more than they have. It follows then that a recovering debt victim is someone that has realised that this is a problem and are open to correct the situation.
Like an Alcoholic, a recovering debt victim needs to be on guard against his or her own demons because the desire to overspend is not something you get rid of, you simply keep it under control.
On Affiliate Links
We always START with the tip, then if any of the relevant companies offer an affiliate program we will include that. We do NOT exclude companies from our tips if they do not offer an affiliate program. They will be reviewed and links included regardless.
This is in reference to the reviews that have strange looking links in them and the links in the sidebar. The text on the site may for instance say “Tesco.com”, but if you hover over the link ( leave the pointer arrow on the link without clicking ) you will see that the actual link is pointing to a long and relatively unrecognisable website URL.
This is an affiliate link where ever it appear. In some reviews we have provided “direct links” so you have the choice if you want us to earn an affiliate income from that website. In Others we clearly state if the link will earn us a commission.
As an affiliate this website may earn a commission for refering business to another website. These websites may pay us if you visit their site or they may pay us if you buy something from them.
This has no impact on what you are charged, but makes a positive contribution to this free website.
You should also consider, that if you shop from companies without using an affiliate link, you will help them increase their profits even further.
Affiliate income is in our view a way to redistribute profits from companies to individuals.
I hope the presence of affiliate links and advertising doesn’t put you off. It is helping fellow money savers after all.
On Making Money
We would not have put this website together if we could not recover our costs. And to be honest, make a little profit too.
We do work hard to keep this site updated, and we need the money too. Call it our small way of getting out of debt.
We are not a front for some corporation. We are a married couple living on the South Coast of England who have a dream that by helping others we could find a way to help ourselves. We are also hoping that by encouraging our community members to help eachother, that we all can benefit from that as well.
And that is our ambition for this website, and we thank you for helping us make this community work.
Cheers,
Jon & Pauline
